Why Choosing The Right Dumpster Size Matters For Your Renovation
Dumpster Sizes Available
You want to choose the right dumpster size to ensure all the waste fits in the dumpster, preventing extra cleanup or waste overflow. At CLE Disposal, we offer 4 sizes of residential dumpsters:
- 10-yard dumpsters
- 20-yard dumpsters
- 30-yard dumpsters
- 40-yard dumpsters
10-Yard Dumpsters
We’ve found that many people like to rent our 10-yard dumpsters for concrete, stone, and rock projects. They were made for holding heavier debris like concrete and brick. Renting a dumpster to get rid of any of these materials saves you money because you eliminate the extra trips. It also lowers the risk that a huge pile of concrete would slide, which can injure someone.
Best Use Cases
- Works well for stone, brick, rock, concrete, and dirt
- Throw away old furniture, appliances, or large amounts of trash
- Good for small-scale renovation projects like a one-room remodeling like a bathroom or kitchen
20-Yard Dumpsters
Our 20-yard dumpsters have especially become popular when dealing with yard waste, furniture, appliances, and shingle waste. Home cleanouts and light demolition projects see a lot of use cases for the 20-yard dumpsters. To put into perspective how many trips a 20-yard dumpster can save you, it can eliminate the need for 8 pickup truck loads.
Best Use Cases
- A great choice for reshingling the home and large-scale roofing projects
- Clean out an entire home and remove unneeded household items
- Works well for a light demolition project or yard waste
30-Yard Dumpsters
You would choose a 30-yard dumpster to tackle a large-scale renovation project like an estate cleanout, a home addition, or a demolition job. Many landscapers rent a 30-yard dumpster for greenhouse cleanups and tree trimming. This residential dumpster can handle the debris from a 2,500 to 3,000-square-foot home renovation project. Don’t choose this dumpster for large quantities of heavy materials like concrete, stones, or rocks since you can easily exceed the weight limit.
Best Use Cases
- Handles the debris from a 3,000-square-foot renovation project
- This dumpster would also make sense for demolition jobs
- Good for landscaping projects like tree trimming or greenhouse cleanup
40-Yard Dumpsters
A 40-yard dumpster is the largest dumpster that we can give you at CLE Disposal. This dumpster size was made for large-scale and long-term home renovation projects. You would use it to get rid of a mix of materials like drywall, plaster, wood, and other debris. You might even toss furniture, appliances, and household items in this dumpster. Just remember that with every dumpster, some materials may require special handling, and they may be prohibited from being put in that dumpster due to the potential for contamination. Some of the prohibited items to discard include batteries, tires, food waste, animal by-products, and biohazard materials.
Best Use Cases
- A great choice for getting rid of a mix of materials like drywall, plaster, or wood
- Throw away old furniture, appliances, and household items
- Works well for long-term home renovation and large-scale projects
How to Calculate Your Dumpster Size

You want to choose the right dumpster size because it will save you money and will reduce the danger to you during your renovation. In 2020, Clearsurance conducted an analysis that learned how 3% of all emergency room visits were related to home renovation projects, so it’s important to stay safe, and the correct dumpster size lets you discard waste safely.

To calculate the dumpster size you need to calculate cubic feet. You take the cubic volume of the dumpster and multiply the dimensions. After you’ve done that, you convert it into cubic yards. To calculate that, you take the length in feet x the width in feet x depth. Next, you would take the total and divide it by 27. Dividing the total by 27 will give you how much for cubic yards you need.
