How Do You Choose The Right Size Roll-Off Dumpster?

October 23, 2024

Too small and you’ll need multiple hauls but too big and you pay for space you’ll never use. How do you pick the perfect size for a roll-off dumpster? At CLE Disposal, we can help you with choosing the right size, but we often recommend people to do the following:

Think Of The Project Scope

Your typical small cleanup project requires a 10-yard to 20-yard dumpster. This project normally involves you cleaning out a few rooms. You also need to think of the materials going into the dumpster because not all will be suited for every material.

For medium-sized, and this is typically why the 20 and 30-yard roll-off dumpsters are so popular, you would want a 20 or 30-yard dumpster. These roll-off dumpsters make sense for remodeling a room or doing moderate landscaping work. Finally, you have the 40-yard dumpster. This one makes sense for your large-scale construction projects.

Doing that will give you a basic idea, but if you’d like a more specific answer, you need to calculate the volume. To do this, you measure your length, width, and height in feet. Next, you would multiply the numbers. Finally, divide by 27 to understand what your volume would look like

How Much Waste Material There Is

You should know in advance how much waste material your project will produce to understand the size of the roll-off dumpster that you would need to rent. Doing a small home cleanup might only produce a small amount of waste, so a 10 or 20-yard dumpster would work fine. Many landscaping projects would also fall into that category.

Budget

Finally, think about the budget. The size of your dumpster should also meet with your budget. In some cases, going with a larger roll-off dumpster will save you money because of the fewer fees that you’d pay with multiple smaller bins or frequent trash collection. Think of the correct placement in a dumpster as well because in some cases, you can get more for your money with a smaller dumpster and the correct placement when throwing things in. Fill in the gaps where possible.
